GIRLS GOLF: Columbia receives at-large bid to state tournament

Columbia’s girls golf team received one of the four at-large bids to the Class 2A  State Tournament meet on Wednesday, one day after finishing seventh in Region 1-2A. The Lady Tigers’ score of 381 was good enough to move on after the top three teams in each region automatically qualified.

GAINESVILLE — No. 10 Florida is planning to start returning to its football facility Monday, nearly two weeks after the program shut down because of a covid-19 outbreak.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia could add more protection to jump-start offense

One of the best teams to ever suit up in Columbia was the 2015 squad that reached the state semifinals. That team was loaded on offense, scoring more than 41 points a game. But it did have a weakness and it was on the offensive line.

GIRLS GOLF: Columbia places seventh at regionals

Columbia placed seventh at the Region 1-2A Tournament on Tuesday at Dubsdread Golf Course with a score of 381, led by Reece Chasteen’s 82. Peyton Gainey shot an 86 while Ashley Nelson carded a 99 and Kayla Hardy finished with a 114.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: UF announces 25 new positive covid-19 tests in last week

GAINESVILLE — The University of Florida released covid-19 data on Tuesday, reporting 25 cases among the Gators football team in the last week. The data is from test results from last Tuesday through Monday, a period in which the university says it performed 584 of the 1,107 tests this month.

COMMENTARY: Tigers haven't quit and don't expect them to even at 0-4

Not much has gone right for Columbia through four games this season. The Tigers nearly won their opener against Trinity Christian (28-21 loss) but have since suffered double-digit losses to Florida High (27-14), Madison County (12-0) and Lee (38-21).
