LIVE OAK — While changing classes December 15 at Suwannee High School, Camdon Frier received the news. His dad, Matt, texted him that in less than a week he would be competing in Naples against the best freshman football players in the country.

Alabama teammates Mac Jones and DeVonta Smith along with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Florida’s Kyle Trask have been named finalists for the Heisman Trophy.  The Heisman will be awarded Jan. 5 during a virtual ceremony.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are holding all sorts of auditions during Christmas week. Coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday that Gardner Minshew and Mike Glennon will vie for the starting job in practice before hosting Chicago (7-7). That’s right, an open competition in Week 16 of the regular season.
