GAINESVILLE — Florida is rebuilding its defensive line with help from the transfer portal. The Gators officially welcomed former Auburn defensive tackle Daquan Newkirk to the program Thursday, a little more than a week after landing ex-Penn State defensive tackle Antonio Shelton.

Leyah Houston was a handful for Columbia. But Gainesville couldn’t contain Na’Haviya Paxton either. Paxton recorded a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds to help Columbia hold off Gainesville 66-61 at home Wednesday night despite a huge night from Houston.

Down by three, Na’Haviya Paxton drove the lane hoping to score and draw a foul. She came up with neither. Instead, Vanguard held on to defeat Columbia 57-54 and escape with a road victory as Paxton’s shot bounced off the rim with no whistle.
