NFL: Minshew Mania returns, could be limited shows remaining

JACKSONVILLE — Minshew Mania is back, at least in theory. Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone switched to quarterback Gardner Minshew for the third time in two seasons this week, naming Minshew the starter for Sunday’s game at Baltimore. The latest move has little chance of being permanent.

GAINESVILLE — Florida forward Keyontae Johnson’s prognosis is “trending in the right direction, but we still have a lot of questions,” the school’s athletic director said Wednesday.

Columbia coach Anthony Perry shut down his basketball program through the New Year on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution due to covid-19. The Lady Tigers had one positive covid-19 case three weeks ago but the player was isolated, allowing the team to continue into December.

Today is early signing day, but Columbia 2021 receiver Jaden Williams won’t be signing his letter of intent. Instead, he’s reopened his recruitment with less than two months to go before National Signing Day in February.

GAINESVILLE — Florida forward Keyontae Johnson is speaking with family members and doctors and was even able to FaceTime his teammates Tuesday, his parents said in a statement released by the school. Nika and Marrecus Johnson added that they “feel so much love and support from everyone.

BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK: Columbia, Suwannee in quarantine following positive covid-19 test

Suwannee ended a nine-game losing streak in the rivalry with Columbia on Saturday, coming away with a 65-58 win in Live Oak. But that’s the last time both teams will see the court for the foreseeable future due to covid-19 concerns.
