BOYS BASKETBALL: Indians run away from Bucs

BRANFORD — Ja’rod Cannon had the touch from 3-point range, Chancellor Wilson had a strong all-around game and the Fort White Indians won easily at Branford on Thursday. After a close first quarter, Fort White went on to a convincing 79-43 victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Branford rolls past Fort White

BRANFORD — A big scoring night from Cera McElreath propelled the Branford girls’ basketball team past Fort White on Thursday. McElreath scored 32 points and Branford led from start to finish in a 74-49 victory. “I was proud of our offense,” said BHS coach Carla Suggs.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida postpones 3 home games while Johnson makes progress

GAINESVILLE — Florida has postponed its next three men's basketball games while forward Keyontae Johnson continues to show "truly encouraging signs of progress,” athletic director Scott Stricklin said Thursday.

PREP ROUNDUP: Fort White boys rally to top Trenton in hoops

Fort White's boys basketball rallied from 16 down at the half to defeat Trenton 52-47 on the road Tuesday night in District 6-1A action to sweep the season series. Chancellor Wilson dropped 17 of his 19 points in the second half, including going 4 for 4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

NFL: Minshew Mania returns, could be limited shows remaining

JACKSONVILLE — Minshew Mania is back, at least in theory. Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone switched to quarterback Gardner Minshew for the third time in two seasons this week, naming Minshew the starter for Sunday’s game at Baltimore. The latest move has little chance of being permanent.

GAINESVILLE — Florida forward Keyontae Johnson’s prognosis is “trending in the right direction, but we still have a lot of questions,” the school’s athletic director said Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Columbia shutting down program until January out of an abundance of caution due to covid-19

Columbia coach Anthony Perry shut down his basketball program through the New Year on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution due to covid-19. The Lady Tigers had one positive covid-19 case three weeks ago but the player was isolated, allowing the team to continue into December.
