GIRLS GOLF: Columbia places second at Jill Darr Tournament

Columbia placed second at the Jill Darr Tournament at Hawkstone Country Club on Tuesday in an 18-hole pre-district tournament. The Tigers finished with 351 points behind champion Forest, which had 334. Karlee Gainey led CHS with a 79, while Ashley Nelson carded an 84.

Players were in tears, parents were in tears, and so were the coaches. That included Demetric Jackson. Fort White had just suffered a heartbreaking 21-17 loss to Madison County in the 2016 regional finals, a loss that still sticks with Jackson to this day.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia, Fort White hold steady in playoff seeding in latest RPI rankings

The bad news? Columbia dropped in the FHSAA RPI rankings this week. The good news? The Tigers didn’t see their seed change. Despite falling to fifth in the RPI, Columbia would still be the No. 3 seed if the playoffs started today.

A collective effort delivered Columbia the District 3-6A title against Orange Park on Friday night. The Tigers (6-2) used eight different rushers and completed passes to seven different receivers in a 42-14 win over the Raiders to take home their first championship since 2018.
