PREP ROUNDUP: CHS drops swim meet to P.K. Yonge; BHS tops SHS in girls golf

Columbia’s swim team lost to P.K. Yonge in a dual meet on Tuesday, with the boys falling 174-69 and the girls 188-112. The Tigers had a few individual winners. The boys were led by victories from Matt Glover (2:15.10 in 200 freestyle; 6:07.64 in 500 freestyle) and Jayden Drew (23.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia drops in latest RPI rankings ahead of pivotal district game vs. Riverside

Even following a win last week, Columbia fell in the latest FHSAA RPI rankings on Wednesday. Despite the Tigers topping Westside 27-9 for a District 3-6A win, they dropped a spot to fifth in Region 1-6A.

PREP VOLLEYBALL: Area teams stay put in FHSAA rankings

All four local teams stayed put in the latest FHSAA rankings on Tuesday. Columbia is still last out of seven teams in District 3-6A, though its rating improved again from 2.124 to 2.399. Leon (19-4) is still first with a 27.658 rating, followed by Chiles (18-4) at 25.215, Forest (12-7) at 16.

It took until the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game against Westside, but Columbia head coach Demetric Jackson caught a glimpse of what he’s been looking for all season — a running game. The rushing attack, namely Tony Fulton, finally showed some promise in Tigers’ 27-9 win over the Wolverines.

AUTO RACING: Milestone for Bubba Wallace as he earns 1st NASCAR victory

TALLADEGA, Ala. — Bubba Wallace became just the second Black driver to win at NASCAR's top Cup Series level when rain stopped Monday's playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway. Wallace had driven through a crash and to the front of the field five laps before the second rain stoppage of the race.

NFL: Urban Meyer apologizes for being 'just stupid' in viral video

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer apologized to his family, his team and owner Shad Khan for actions he called “just stupid." A video surfaced Saturday night showing a woman dancing close to Meyer's lap, a clip that quickly went viral and made headlines across the country.
