PREP FOOTBALL: Suwannee soars past Paxon to snap 4-game skid

LIVE OAK — Friday night was just what Suwannee High needed. In need of something to spark some success, the Bulldog found it early, in all three phases. A safety barely two minutes in followed by an offensive touchdown sent the Bulldogs to a 51-12 homecoming win against Paxon at Langford Stadium.

AUTO RACING: Defending champion Whitener back at Powell Memorial

Race car drivers from seven states have their sights set on Lake City for the 26th running of the Powell Memorial, competing for $26,000 — the biggest purse offered at the track. The Powell Family Memorial is held to honor James Powell’s family.

NFL: Meyer promises not to miss another team flight

WATFORD, England — Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer promised Friday to not miss another team flight. The last time he did, Meyer ended up embarrassing the franchise and drawing a public reprimand from owner Shad Khan after videos surfaced of the coach’s behavior in an Ohio bar.

NFL: Fins, Jags go to great lengths (4,500 miles) to end skids

JACKSONVILLE — Miami and Jacksonville have two of the NFL’s longest current losing streaks. The Dolphins have dropped four in a row by a combined 76 points. The Jaguars’ skid stands at 20, the longest in the league in nearly five decades and six shy of the record.
