MAYO — As Fort White players hugged and consoled each other, one member of the team stood off to the side. Clayton Philpot, with tears still staining his cheeks, embraced co-head coach/defensive coordinator Ken Snider. Snider had a simple message for the junior quarterback.

PREP ROUNDUP: Suwannee boys place 32nd at Class 2A State Meet; CHS boys edge HCHS in soccer

Suwannee placed 32nd at the Class 2A State Meet on Friday at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. Jesse Cushman led the Bulldogs in the tough field of 232 runners, finishing in 139th (18:36.30) and just ahead of teammate Paul Gunter, who finished 141st (18:38.80).

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: FSU, Miami renew rivalry with tangible goals looming

TALLAHASSEE — Miami and Florida State are unranked teams and the rivalry doesn’t have the fanfare it had when the programs combined to win seven national titles between 1983-2001. But the Hurricanes (5-4, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) and Seminoles (3-6, 2-4) are still playing for tangible goals.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Feeling better, Osborne leads Florida State to rout of Penn

TALLAHASSEE — Coach Leonard Hamilton said in the days leading up to Florida State’s opener that Malik Osborne would likely be limited because of flu-like symptoms that had forced him to miss the team’s second exhibition game. Osborne instead looked energetic from the start.
