Jasper chief laid to rest

JASPER — Law enforcement agencies from around the state joined the Jasper community for a solemn ceremony honoring its late police chief.

Jasper woman killed in single-vehicle crash

JASPER — A Jasper woman was killed Saturday afternoon when her SUV overturned in a single-vehicle crash in western Hamilton County. The 61-year-old woman was headed north on County Road 143 in an SUV when it veered to the right and onto the shoulder around 1:45 p.m.

Little Miss LHS crowned

MAYO — On Saturday afternoon, eight young ladies took the stage at Lafayette High School to compete for the titles of Tiny and Little Miss LHS. These young girls prepared for this event by practicing their opening dance and their stage performances.

Brush fire closes 129 in southern Suwannee Co.

BRANFORD — A brush fire in southern Suwannee County closed U.S. Highway 129 for hours Wednesday. Suwannee County Fire Chief Eddie Hand said the 15- to 20-acre fire in a planted pine field led to zero visibility on U.S. 129 Wednesday afternoon before it was brought under control.

Miami Mayor Suarez enters Republican field

MIAMI — Miami Mayor Francis Suarez filed paperwork Wednesday to launch his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, jumping into the crowded race just a day after GOP front-runner Donald Trump appeared in court on federal charges in Suarez’s city.

MIAMI — Donald Trump became the first former president to face a judge on federal charges as he pleaded not guilty in a Miami courtroom Tuesday to dozens of felony counts accusing him of hoarding classified documents and refusing government demands to give them back.
