TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis made his White House bid official Wednesday, announcing a 2024 presidential run in an online discussion with Elon Musk that ended months of speculation and set up a clash with former President Donald Trump.

LIVE OAK — The guest speaker at Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony in Live Oak will be a familiar face. Larry Sessions, a former Suwannee County commissioner and the interim Live Oak city manager, will speak during the ceremony, set to begin at 11 a.m.

O’BRIEN — Suwannee County’s effort to clean up one of its springs got trashed this week. A portable building designed to serve as a guard station for Little River Springs was broken into by two individuals around 8:25 p.m. Monday.

Day Heritage Center recognizes veterans

DAY — An extension of the Day Heritage Center has taken root along County Road 53 in northeast Lafayette County. On Tuesday, volunteers helped the Heritage Center place 217 crosses and flags along the roadway to honor deceased veterans from the greater Daytown area.
