Columbia rising senior receiver Kyren Caldwell verbally committed to Maryland on Saturday, choosing the Terrapins over finalists Alabama and Mississippi State.
Caldwell, who stands 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, is a 3-star rated prospect and a top-75 wideout in the country for the 20276 class in the 247Sports composite. He’s coming off a junior season where he was an LCR all-area selection after leading Columbia with 48 catches for 701 yards and eight touchdowns, a jump from his breakout sophomore year where he had 32 receptions for547 yards and five scores.
Caldwell had more than 20 Division I offers before first narrowing down his choices to Maryland Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia, Colorado, South Carolina and Auburn back on April 23. Maryland, Mississippi State and Alabama became Caldwell’s three finalists after taking visits to the schools in the past month.
The standout receiver is now the only player from Columbia’s 2027 class to make his college commitment following the departure of cornerback Tacori Allen, who was committed to FIU but has since transferred to Raines for his senior season.
