Local teens get taste of D.C. with SVEC

Three area teens got the opportunity to trek to the nation’s capital to rub elbows with other high school students affected by electric cooperatives.

Lafayette commission OKs $3.9M road project

MAYO — A major roadwork project has been cleared to begin in Lafayette County. At its Board of County Commissioners meeting Monday, the Lafayette BOCC voted unanimously to approve a contract with Anderson Columbia to mill and resurface NW County Road 53 from U.S.

Florida inmate gets 15 months for threatening judge

JACKSONVILLE — A Florida state prison inmate already serving a three-decade sentence will serve an additional one year and three months in federal prison for threatening to kill a federal judge and his family. Curtis Brown, 35, was sentenced Tuesday in Jacksonville federal court.

Suwannee moving new fire station

LIVE OAK — Suwannee County’s next fire station is moving to a new location. The Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved looking for a new location for Station 6 at Tuesday’s meeting.
