County increasing access to veterans services

Columbia County is looking to ramp up services for local veterans, just in time for Memorial Day. The increased attention comes after complaints were received about accessibility to the county’s veterans services officer.

Biting leads to battery charges

A Lake City man tried to put the bite back into crime, according to law enforcement. A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office report states Jonathan Perkins, 31, bit a victim during a physical altercation before grabbing a pair of knives Monday morning.

Belmont honors graduates in ceremony

COLUMBIA CITY — Nervousness was one of the most common themes Friday night as 19 Belmont Academy students ended their high school careers at the school’s annual commencement exercises.

Belmont kicks off grad exercises

Belmont Academy will be the first Columbia County high school to host its 2021 commencement exercises tonight when close to 20 students get their high school diplomas. The Belmont Academy graduation will take place 6 p.m. today on the school campus at 5037 SW County Road 240.

U.S. Cold Storage eyes tax break

Looking to add a rail spur to its facility, U.S. Cold Storage is hoping the line delivers a county tax break as well. The Columbia County Board of County Commissioners will consider at its 5:30 p.m. meeting today, a request from U.S. Cold Storage for a tax exemption incentive.
