Housing market still soaring

Another month, another seller’s market in north Florida real estate. According to data compiled by the Florida Realtors and released this week by the Lake City Board of Realtors, the market continued to soar in August.

Humane Society to unwrap clinic

The Lake City-Columbia County Humane Society will have a nice present waiting for them this Christmas. The Humane Society’s animal treatment facility, the James Montgomery Animal Wellness Center, plans to open in December.

Honoring the honor guard

The Suwannee County Fire Rescue Honor Guard, which formed less than three years ago, has served as a regional unit dedicated to honoring fallen firefighters.

White named Lake City Medical CFO

Lake City Medical Center has a new chief financial officer. HCA Healthcare North Florida Division announced the appointment of Mike White to the role, beginning Monday. White has been with HCA Healthcare for four years.

A frightfully good time: Restless Slumber Cemetery set to spook Friday

Folks are just dying to get in. The Restless Slumber Cemetery, a haunted house attraction owned and operated by Todd Denmark, officially opens for spooky business Friday from 8-11 p.m. at 825 SW Wester Drive.

Lake City police investigating fatal shooting

A Lake City man was shot and killed Wednesday morning in what the Lake City Police Department is describing as a “dispute.” Nathaniel Barnett Jr., 36, was found dead inside a home on SW Haygood Loop as a result of the shooting where authorities were notified after 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Juvenile shoots himself while trying to buy gun

An attempt to purchase a firearm Tuesday backfired on a Lake City juvenile. According a Lake City Police Department release, the juvenile changed his story after being treated at Lake City Medical Center for a gunshot wound, admitting to shooting himself while trying to buy the gun.
