City cancels special meeting; now set for Saturday

The Lake City Council won’t be meeting to review contract terms with Thomas Thomas this evening after all.

The council’s special meeting was canceled Monday afternoon and rescheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The only item on the agenda was the discussion and possible action of contract terms with Thomas for the city’s vacant city manager position.

The council selected Thomas for the position following an in-person interview with the long-time municipal government administrator on Wednesday.

According to an email City Attorney Fred Koberlein sent to Thomas on Sunday, the city is offering an annual salary of $120,000 with a mandatory review after 180 days, which could lead to an increase. The city is also offering relocation expenses up to $10,000 and full-time benefits plus an additional two weeks of annual leave as well as a laptop, tablet, cell phone and city-owned vehicle.

In the correspondence from Koberlein, the city is eyeing Thomas starting on or around March 1.
