PREP FOOTBALL: Branford-Stanton game up in the air due to Hurricane Milton

BRANFORD — The weekend for Branford is looking murkier than Hurricane Milton’s path. As of Tuesday evening, head coach Tim Clark said he was still in contact with Stanton Prep athletic director Chris Crider, looking for solutions to this Friday’s scheduled game.

VOLLEYBALL — Columbia 3, Lafayette 0: Behind 13 kills, 18 digs and four aces from Sinei Wood, 10 kills from Kayla Goodloe, and eight kills apiece from Adriauna Combs and Cassidy O’Neal, the Tigers (13-8) swept the Class Rural No. 2 Hornets (16-3) 25-12, 26-24, 25-14 at home on Senior Night.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia-Ridgeview tentatively on for Friday as Hurricane Milton approaches

With Hurricane Milton barreling toward Florida, Columbia is in standby mode. The Tigers’ District 3-4A contest against Ridgeview set for this Friday at Tiger Stadium is currently on as scheduled, but that’s dependent on how much damage Milton causes in Columbia and Clay counties.

VOLLEYBALL — Branford 3, Columbia 1: Despite 21 kills and 30 digs from Sinei Wood, 27 digs from Avery Sandlin and 32 assists from Ava Christie, the Tigers (12-8) fell to the Rural No. 1 Buccaneers (21-3) 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20 on the road.

Olivia Hermanson placed fifth overall in a time of 21:32.0 to lead the Suwannee girls to a third-place finish at the Alligator Lake Invitational on Saturday, while Logan Haley finished 10th at 17:56.9 to lead the Suwannee boys to a sixth-place finish.

FORT WHITE — A fast start from Fort White had disappeared. A two-score lead in the opening minutes had vaporized with Lafayette striking on a long touchdown to grab its first lead early in the third quarter.
