Columbia weightlifter Sakiya Merriex was voted by the readers again as the LCR Athlete of the Week for Dec. 9-14.
Merriex received 419 of the 830 votes cast through 4 p.m. Wednesday in our online poll following a week where finished second in traditional and third in Olympic at the Power of Christmas meet, setting new school records in the 101 class in the clean and jerk (130) and bench press (115). She finished ahead of CHS wrestler Josie Raulerson (261 votes), CHS basketball player Zamarion Jones (42), CHS basketball player Dariyan Williams (33), FWHS basketball player Zuri Hollie (26), CHS soccer player Logan Wheeldon (20), SHS wrestler Marshall White (18) and CHS soccer player Sadie Sparks (11).
The next poll will be online this weekend. Nominees will be chosen from scores and stats uploaded to MaxPreps, sent in by coaches and from games attended by the LCR's reporters. Coaches can also send in nominees to jkroeger@lakecityreporter.com.
