PARIS — Minutes after suddenly becoming a Grand Slam champion at age 19, while ranked just 54th, Iga Swiatek held a microphone during the French Open trophy presentation and was hesitant for pretty much the only time over the past two weeks.

Columbia coach Brian Allen tried everything Friday night against Madison County to find an offensive spark. He put cornerback Shyheim Brown at quarterback. Receiver Tray Tolliver took some snaps too. Nothing worked. Instead, the Tigers were shut out by the Cowboys 12-0 at home.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Fender places third to lead Columbia at Buchholz Bobcat Invite

Audrey Fender placed third to lead Columbia’s cross country team at the Buchholz Bobcats Invite on Friday. Fender finished with a time of 21:31.50 and had teammates right behind her. Mackeznie Conklin placed 10th (23:37.90), Suzannah Raines 16th (24:12.50) and Morgan Golden 17th (24:30.90).

NFL: Jaguars could be without 3 defensive starters at Texans

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars could be without three defensive starters at Houston on Sunday. Coach Doug Marrone listed defensive end Josh Allen (knee), linebacker Myles Jack (ankle) and rookie cornerback CJ Henderson (shoulder) as questionable against the Texans.

PREP ROUNDUP: Columbia boys win Alachua County Championship, girls place third at Jill Darr Invitational

Columbia defeated Buchholz in a four-man, one-hole playoff to win the Ann and John Ives Alachua County Championship on Thursday after the teams finished tied with scores of 311. Leading the way for the Tigers was Ty Folsom, who shot a 72 to take medalist honors.

PREP FOOTBALL: Branford-Hilliard canceled by covid issue

BRANFORD — The Branford Buccaneers' focus shifted away from football and onto player and student safety Thursday afternoon. The school announced the cancellation of Friday's home game against Hilliard after discussions with the Suwannee County Health Department.
