One top-10 matchup follows another. Columbia is hoping the next one goes a lot better than the first. Class 5A No. 8 Manatee will make the three-hour bus ride north to Lake City to face the Class 4A No. 9 Tigers on Friday night at 7:30.

MAYO — Both coaches should be quite familiar with each other — and their playmakers — by now. Fort White’s Demetric Jackson and Lafayette’s Marcus Edwards have met one another each of the last two seasons. Jackson has had the upper hand so far, coming away with wins of 35-0 and 32-21.

Sinei Wood delivered 24 kills to go with three aces and 15 digs to lead Columbia to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-15 sweep of Baker County during Senior Night on Wednesday. Brynn Lester assisted 36 kills and added three aces for the Tigers (10-11) while Zion Wallace had 11 digs.

LIVE OAK — It’s hard to make much of a defense for Suwannee’s defense through six games. After a 30-23 setback Friday to Wakulla that eliminated any hopes the Bulldogs had of winning a District 2-3A title, Suwannee’s defense continues to not find ways to slow down opposing offenses.
