GAINESVILLE — Florida women's soccer coach Becky Burleigh, who started the program in 1995 and won a national championship in her fourth year, is retiring at the end of this season.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Colin Castleton led the way for Florida in the second half — on offense and defense. Castleton scored 15 of his 21 points after halftime, and the Gators beat No. 11 West Virginia 85-80 on Saturday in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.

Marcus Peterson scored 12 points to lead Columbia to a 46-38 over Madison County on the road Friday night. Charleston Ponds added 11 points and Tray Tolliver also had eight for the Tigers (14-4) over the Cowboys (9-4).

No team is easy once you reach the playoffs. Columbia coach Anthony Perry knows that and it’s why he scheduled Class 7A contender Oakleaf at the end of the season. It was supposed to be a measuring stick to see where his team stacked up ahead of next week’s district tournament.

GAINESVILLE — Florida promoted Garrick McGee from analyst to quarterbacks coach Friday, filling a vacancy created by Brian Johnson’s departure to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles. McGee spent the 2020 season working behind the scenes at Florida after a two-year stint at Missouri.
