GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: 23 lifters from the area qualify for state meets, including 14 from Suwannee

The Florida High School Athletic Association announced the at-large bids for the state meets on Monday and several area lifters made the cut. Columbia’s Da’Niya Lewis and Trachelle Williams will join regional champion Reece Chasteen at the Class 2A state meet on Feb. 13.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Former LSU TE Arik Gilbert chooses Florida as landing spot

GAINESVILLE — Florida landed one of the country's most coveted transfers Sunday, a likely replacement for star tight end Kyle Pitts. Former LSU standout Arik Gilbert committed to the Gators on Twitter, saying "this is the best situation for me and I’m excited to join the family.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida rallies to beat No. 11 WVU in Big 12-SEC Challenge

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Colin Castleton led the way for Florida in the second half — on offense and defense. Castleton scored 15 of his 21 points after halftime, and the Gators beat No. 11 West Virginia 85-80 on Saturday in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: 7A contender Oakleaf hits Columbia with running clock

No team is easy once you reach the playoffs. Columbia coach Anthony Perry knows that and it’s why he scheduled Class 7A contender Oakleaf at the end of the season. It was supposed to be a measuring stick to see where his team stacked up ahead of next week’s district tournament.
