The backdrop to Columbia’s season-opening 3-1 win against Santa Fe wasn’t one of excitement or anticipation. Rather, each team and the crowd behind them rose for a moment of silence before the National Anthem.

LOS ANGELES — Tiger Woods crashed his SUV on sweeping, downhill road in the Los Angels suburbs Tuesday morning, and doctors tried to stabilize “significant” injuries to his right leg with rods and a combination of screws and pins.

Only seconds had passed but Columbia was angry. Lincoln was lifting the district championship trophy, hardware the Tigers had won the past two years. They had nobody to blame but themselves, falling behind by 24 points before a late rally came up short in a 64-57 loss on Feb.

Reece Chasteen was torn choosing between softball or golf in college. Emory and Henry College made sure she didn’t have to pick a favorite. The Wasps offered her the opportunity to play both sports at the next level and Chasteen verbally committed back in November.
