With more than 30 college offers to his name, Marcus Peterson’s phone was ringing off the hook. Sometimes several times an hour. “Coaches were calling every day, texting and everything,” said Peterson, who says he got around 30 phone calls a day. “It was just crazy.”  Even bothersome.

FORT WHITE — Sometimes things just work out. Branford coach Tim Clark got a call Thursday morning letting him know that the Buccaneers now had an opening for Week 2. Joshua Christian, a private school in Jacksonville, was struggling with low numbers of players and needed to drop playing.

BRANFORD — For most of Wednesday’s practice — the first with shoulder pads — there wasn’t much for the Branford defense to hang their tricorne on. But late in the defensive period, Caden Coker dropped back into coverage as Kyson Johnson rolled out and the junior picked off the pass.
