LIVE OAK — Suwannee senior Matti Marsee is used to raising the bar. However, it may be tough to top the award Marsee hoisted Thursday when the National High School Strength Coaches Association unveiled its All-American Awards with Marsee named the Female Athlete of the Year.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Williams tabbed to lead FGC's return following 15-year hiatus

He led Columbia High School to the 2013 state championship. Now he’s tasked with reinvigorating the program at Florida Gateway College following a 15-year hiatus. FGC announced Jimmy Williams as its new softball coach on Thursday, bringing in a local name with a long pedigree of success.

NFL: Jaguars pick up 5th-year option on pass rusher Josh Allen

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars exercised the fifth-year option in pass rusher Josh Allen’s rookie contract on Thursday. The move keeps Allen under contract for two more seasons and fully guarantees his 2023 salary at $11.5 million.

PREP SPORTS: FHSAA releases new rankings to seed next week’s baseball, softball district tournaments

There were no surprises at the top of the latest FHSAA rankings released on Tuesday, with Columbia still ranked first in Region 1-5A and Suwannee still No. 1 in Region 1-4A. That means both teams will be the No. 1 seeds in their respective districts for next week’s tournaments.
