When Chris Howard was hired at Columbia, he felt like he was walking into a gold mine. The first-year head coach wasn’t wrong. The Tigers showed just how special they were on Thursday night, winning their first district title since 2019.

BELL — Chad Padgett had a simple message for his team in the middle of the fifth inning. “Five runs.” That’s all Fort White would need to end Thursday’s District 6-1A softball championship. Really, they only needed four, but what’s one more to the avalanche of scoring?

NFL: Bucs, Seahawks to meet in 1st game in Germany; Jags face Broncos in London

LONDON — The first regular-season NFL game in Germany will be between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks at the home of soccer club Bayern Munich. The game will take place at the Allianz Arena on Nov. 13, the NFL said Wednesday.

JACKSONVILLE — Veteran defensive end Adam Gotsis signed a one-year contract to rejoin the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday, giving the team some experienced depth to play behind rookie and projected starter Travon Walker. Gotsis is entering his seventh NFL season and third with Jacksonville.

BELL — What must seem like a lifetime ago in a pair of wild seasons seems awfully prudent now. Back on March 1, Branford and Fort White squared off in just the third game of the regular season in a 3-1 win for the Indians.
