DESTIN — Alabama coach Nick Saban tried to put an end to his feud with Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher on Tuesday as Southeastern Conference leaders gathered for spring meetings at a resort on the Florida Gulf Coast.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Florida was the only member of the often-dominant Southeastern Conference to qualify for the Women's College World Series, routing No. 3 Virginia Tech 12-0 in Game 3 of their Super Regional on Sunday.

COMMENTARY: Fort White’s seniors bring perspective to the state of softball

When Gracie Clemons hit the last pitch her team will see for the next several months, the scream of aluminum bashing cork ripped through the air in Clermont so loud the folks back home in Columbia County probably mistook it for thunder. Time stood still in that fraction of a second.

CLERMONT — If Ella Nelson stood a few feet further to either side, Fort White and Jay might still be playing. Royals relief pitcher Alayna Lowery was already reeling. She inherited a three-run lead just one inning earlier.

CLERMONT — Kadence Compton is used to 0-2 counts in the circle. The freshman pitcher for Fort White is usually a strikeout machine, having posted 14 in the Indians’ 4-0 win over Union County in the regional finals.

NFL: Jags RB Etienne returns after foot injury derails rookie year

JACKSONVILLE — Travis Etienne had several regrets about having to sit out his rookie season. He longed for the camaraderie, the competition and the chance to play in the NFL, his main goal since he was a kid growing up in Jennings, Louisiana. There was one bright spot, though.
