JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke turned toward coach Doug Pederson, smiled widely and said, “I’m pretty confident this will be the last time that I’ll be making the first pick.” History indicates he's right.

PREP SPORTS: FHSAA approves but won’t require shot clock, OKs new playoff seeding

The shot clock is coming to high school basketball. Well, sort of. The FHSAA board of directors voted 15-1 on Monday to adopt a 35-second shot clock for both boys and girls basketball with a catch — it’s optional, not required. The option goes into effect for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

Columbia is sending 10 athletes off to regionals after their performances at the District 3-3A meet on Saturday at Raines High School. Stacy White led the way for the girls with a title in the triple jump with a leap of 9.91m while also placing third in the 100m with a time of 13.
