BOYS SOCCER: Clay ends Columbia's season with shutout in District 2-5A semis

GREEN COVE SPRINGS — Augustus Mock walked off the field, then stood at the fence behind his team’s bench with his back to the field for several minutes. The last 16 minutes of Monday’s District 2-5A against Clay were tough to watch for the Columbia senior goalkeeper.

BOYS BASKETBALL — Columbia 61, Lecanto 58: Marlin Haywood scored 17 points while Justice Kelly and Zavian Douglas added 10 apiece to lead the Tigers (13-9) past the Panthers (17-5) at the Vince Murray Memorial at Vanguard on Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER: Columbia suffers mercy-rule loss to Clay in District 2-5A semis

GREEN COVE SPRINGS — Columbia marched into Clay High School nearly a year ago to the day and pulled off an upset over the then-No. 2 seeded Blue Devils, besting the home team 3-2 on the strength of a pair of early goals, one of which came off a Mia Brasel header in the ninth minute.

GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: Suwannee sweeps district titles again, Branford also claims crown

LIVE OAK — Another year and another pair of district titles for the Suwannee girls weightlifting team. The Bulldogs claimed their sixth straight district title Friday at SHS when they powered past Maclay to take home both the traditional and Olympic events in the District 4-1A meet.

BOYS SOCCER: Columbia tops Middleburg in District 2-5A quarterfinals to keep season alive

After Bobby Shotwell’s penalty kick splashed into the back of net, he placed his finger over his mouth and shushed the Middleburg squad. “They definitely started getting chirpy at the end,” Shotwell said. In a game that was full of trash talk, Columbia got the last word and kept its season alive.
