PREP FOOTBALL: Longtime Suwannee coach Richard Allen dies at 70

LIVE OAK — A constant for years on the sideline at Langford Stadium will now leave a hole in many in and around Suwannee High. Richard Allen, who taught in the Suwannee County School District for 37 1/2 years and spent that long as a football coach for the Bulldogs as well, passed away Monday.

With a critical conference matchup against Florida State College at Jacksonville on the horizon, Thomas University’s JV team was supposed to be a tuneup for Florida Gateway College. And while the Timberwolves got off a sluggish start, the Night Hawks ended up providing just that.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Haywood helps Columbia escape Suwannee with fourth straight win

LIVE OAK — With Suwannee on the verge of an upset, Marlin Haywood saved Columbia with his defense and a little help. Haywood scored seven straight points to give the Tigers an 8-point lead with under two minutes to go and they held on for a 60-52 road win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
