PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia's offense looking to break through against Hillsborough

Friday’s matchup isn’t so much about Hillsborough but more so about Columbia. CHS head coach Brian Allen wants to see his squad — his offense specifically — finally put it all together and show out with a dominating performance.

PREP FOOTBALL: Bruised and banged up, Fort White turns toward depth vs. North Marion

FORT WHITE — The injury bug has bitten Fort White early this season. Head coach Demetric Jackson is adjusting accordingly.  With a 2-0 North Marion team set to visit Arrowhead Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, the Indians (1-1) can’t afford to do much else.

PREP FOOTBALL: Lafayette aims to bounce back vs. Brookwood

MAYO — For Lafayette, visiting Brookwood (Ga.) appears to be a good prospect for a bounce-back win. The Warriors, who are winless at 0-3 and coming off their third lopsided loss in as many games, will visit the Hornets (1-10 on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Dale Walker Field.

GIRLS GOLF — Columbia 176, Buchholz 200, Branford 235: Behind a 38 from Alison O’Brien and a 39 from Megan Ruwe, the Tigers topped the Bobcats and Buccaneers at Quail Heights. Rayna Hardin carded a 49 and Adeline Mock finished with a 39 to cap the scoring for CHS.

Coming off a match that was suspended because of a power outage at the Columbia High gym five days ago, it was fitting that the Tigers played lights out against neighboring county rival Suwannee.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia's O-line still playing ‘too nice,’ needs to be meaner and ‘more violent’

Columbia head coach Brian Allen wanted his offensive line to be meaner last week against Coffee. It wasn’t mean enough. The O-line struggled again against the Class 5A state champion Trojans, who pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 40-13 win.

PREP FOOTBALL: Fort White WR Tafari Moe out for season

FORT WHITE — An already depleted wide receiver corps just got a little more thin for Fort White. Receiver Tafari Moe, who reeled in five catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in Friday’s 41-6 blowout against Belleview, was pulled from the game before halftime following an ankle injury.
