DOH faces challenge on pot licenses

TALLAHASSEE — Heeding a legal blueprint laid out by an appellate judge, a Tampa-based orchid grower has filed a lawsuit accusing the Florida Department of Health of violating the state Constitution by delaying the issuance of nearly two-dozen medical marijuana licenses.

Lafayette FFA makes history with national title

MAYO — Lafayette FFA made history in Indianapolis last week. The Lafayette FFA’s parliamentary procedure team’s national championship in its Leadership Development event was the program’s first national CDE/LDE win.

Live Oak shooting suspect captured

LIVE OAK — A Sanford man was arrested Tuesday night in Union County after authorities say he shot into a Live Oak home. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Malik Bellesen, 19, was arrested for shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Early voting runs through Saturday

Early voting for the November elections is starting to pick up the pace, and different counties are starting to see how both state and local races are shaping up. According to the Columbia County Supervisor of Elections website, 9,811 voters had submitted their ballots through Wednesday.

TALLAHASSEE — Florida motorists can expect to pay more at the pump as the state’s month-long gas tax “holiday” ends. The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas Monday stood at $3.29, about a dime cheaper than at the start of October.

Supreme Court to weigh bar accident case

TALLAHASSEE — After an appeals court rejected a $28.6 million judgment, the Florida Supreme Court on Monday said it will take up a case involving catastrophic injuries suffered by an 18-year-old woman after two Tallahassee bars served underage drinkers.
