PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Tiger suffer their second loss to Santa Fe

Columbia fell to Santa Fe 3-2 on the road Tuesday night. Ember Russell-Martinez and Makhia Miller both scored goals for Columbia while goalkeeper Emily Lamoreaux made 10 saves. The Lady Tigers (11-2-1) travel to Lincoln on Friday for a District 2-6A matchup at 7 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER: Wildcats jump on injury-ridden Tigers

With the six starters missing from their lineup Tuesday, the Columbia boys soccer team suffered its first home loss of the season.  The Tigers fell to Ocala Forest, 4-1, and are still winless in District 2-6A play.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Franks announces transfer to Arkansas; Toney returning for senior season

Former Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks announced Monday that he is transferring to Arkansas. Franks, a graduate transfer, will enroll immediately and go through spring practice with the Razorbacks. His decision comes just a day after taking his official visit to Arkansas.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia still streaking, goes for eighth straight win against Buchholz

Columbia’s winning streak was extended to seven games on Saturday with a 69-57 win over Eustis in the Martin Luther King Jr. Shootout at Forest High School. A hot start from the field helped the Tigers (17-2) get up 20-8 after the first quarter and they pushed that lead to 39-21 at halftime.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Payne an X-factor for Gators with down-low presence

GAINESVILLE — It wasn’t until Omar Payne’s eighth basket Saturday that former Gator Patric Young took notice.  Following Florida’s 69-47 win over No. 4 Auburn, the 2013-14 SEC Defensive Player of the Year ran over to the scorer’s table and checked the stat sheet just to be sure.

PREP FOOTBALL: CHS 3-star linebacker Le'vontae Camiel shuts down recruitment, reaffirms commitment to USF

Columbia linebacker Le'vontae Camiel shut down his recruitment on Saturday, officially announcing that he will be signing with South Florida on National Signing Day on Feb. 5. Camiel, a 3-star prospect, has been committed to USF since June but has kept his recruitment open.

OUTDOORS: Florida Gateway College launches competitive fishing team

It’s all about the bass at FGC. Florida Gateway College is going to launch a competitive fishing team, as a club sport, at the college later this fall with hopes of vying for a national title against some of the nation’s elite college fishing programs.
