COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC point guard Joshua Cross headed to Kentucky State

Florida Gateway College is sending its first from the 2021 class to the next level. Point guard Joshua Cross verbally committed to Kentucky State University on Wednesday, a Division II school in Frankfort that plays in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired four longtime scouting executives, including two who had been with the team more than two decades, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

PREP BASEBALL: Columbia coach Brian Thomas retiring after five seasons

After 19 seasons as a head coach and 19 more as an assistant across five high schools and two colleges in three states, Brian Thomas is calling it quits. Thomas is resigning as Columbia’s baseball coach after spending the past five seasons at the helm.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia forward Charleston Ponds named third team all-state

Columbia senior forward Charleston Ponds was named to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches/Source Hoops Class 6A all-state third team on Saturday. Ponds, who is committed to Davis & Elkins in West Virginia, led the Tigers to a 19-6 record this season and to the Region 1-6A semifinals.

There wasn’t much Bobby Unser wouldn’t do to promote the Indianapolis 500, which is how he found himself at a show-and-tell at an Indiana elementary school a few years ago. He had the famed Indy 500 winners’ Borg-Warner Trophy with him and proudly showed the students the Unser legacy.
