PREP FOOTBALL: With more than 20 college offers combined, Ferrell & Robinson remain hungry

It seems every week a new college offer rolls in for Columbia cornerback Amare Ferrell and linebacker Jaden Robinson. Sometimes even two or three. The two sophomores are being heavily recruited by schools this spring. Just on Tuesday, both players were offered scholarships by Ole Miss.

FORT WHITE — Demetric Jackson isn’t too worried about tonight’s final score. The Fort White coach, fixing to enter his 14th season as the man in charge of the Indians, is coming off just his second losing season in that time.

CLERMONT — Shalyn Parrish laid down a bunt, Laila Arnold slipped in the circle, and the game turned. Up by two runs, Arnold grabbed the ball from her knees and tried to fire the ball to first base to beat out Parrish’s sacrifice bunt.

Mason Gray’s voice quivered. Standing behind a lectern perched in the corner of Columbia’s auditorium, the graduating senior powered through his prepared remarks. He gathered himself before acknowledging his parents.

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars traded cornerback Josiah Scott, a fourth-round draft pick in 2020, to the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday for cornerback Jameson Houston and a sixth-round selection in 2023.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia filling out O-line with 2 new tackles this spring

Quarterback isn’t the only question mark on Columbia’s offense this spring. The Tigers are also working in two new tackles while deciding whether rising senior Kade Jackson or rising sophomore Evan Umstead will win the job behind center.

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars signed sixth-round draft pick Jalen Camp on Monday and waived third-year running back Ryquell Armstead, who spent all of last season on the covid-19 list.

NFL: 1st rule of Jaguars rookie camp — don't touch QB Lawrence

JACKSONVILLE — Trevor Lawrence opened Jacksonville’s rookie minicamp on a pitch count. Coaches and teammates were essentially given an even stricter rule regarding the No. 1 pick and franchise quarterback: Don’t touch him.
