PREP SOFTBALL: Gainesville ends Columbia's season in District 3-5A semis

ST. AUGUSTINE — It just wasn’t their night.  After a shocking 8-1 win over the night before in the opening round of the postseason, nobody in an all-white Columbia uniform Tuesday night could catch a break.

Geno Hayes, former NFL, Florida State linebacker, dies at 33

Geno Hayes, a former NFL linebacker who starred at Florida State, has died. He was 33. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed his death Tuesday. He had liver disease and had been in hospice care at his parents' home in Valdosta, Georgia.

BOYS WEIGHTLIFTING: Columbia's Moreland wins 2A title in 219 class

The pressure was on for Columbia lifter Julius Moreland. Tied at 655 total pounds with Charlotte’s Hunter Pritchard and holding just a 5-pound lead over New Smyrna Beach’s Chris Coon, Moreland stared at 300 pounds on the bar for his final clean and jerk with a state title on the line.

BOYS WEIGHTLIFTING: Suwannee's Moore wins 2A title in 183 class

All year long, Jaquez Moore told everyone he was going to win a state title. On Saturday, the Suwannee senior backed up his claims by totaling 605 pounds to win the gold in the 183-pound weight class at the Class 2A state meet at St. Port Joe High School.

PREP SOFTBALL: Columbia rallies from 8 runs down for improbable win over Bradford

Down eight runs to Bradford, Columbia battled back. The Tigers scored seven in the fifth inning to pull within a run. Then, Reece Chasteen sent a rocket to center field. For a moment, it appeared Columbia would take the lead.
