NFL: Jaguars place WR Tavon Austin on short-term injured reserve

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars placed receiver Tavon Austin on injured reserve Thursday, two days after coach Urban Meyer said he was good to go for the season opener. Austin injured his left quadriceps in practice last Friday and missed the team's preseason finale at Dallas.

GAINESVILLE — Florida’s defense was historically bad last season, so dreadful at times that fans were clamoring to fire everyone. The Gators allowed 30.8 points a game, the school’s most in more than a hundred years, and were equally ineffective against the run and the pass.

LIVE OAK — The Suwannee Bulldogs had a little extra pep in their step as they took the practice field Wednesday. A day after finding out their home opener for Friday was off due to covid-19, the Bulldogs had found a new team willing to travel to Langford Stadium.

NFL: Chargers claim Columbia alum Trey Marshall off waivers

The Los Angeles Chargers claimed safety Trey Marshall off of waivers on Wednesday. The move reunites Marshall with his college teammate from Florida State, Derwin James. The Denver Broncos cut Marshall on Tuesday when they narrowed down their 53-man roster.
