It was a rebound game that Columbia badly needed. With an 0-2 start and defending state champion Madison County on the schedule next week, relief was mixed in with smiles following a gutty 21-16 victory against DeLand at Tiger Stadium on a rainy Friday night.

LIVE OAK — The Suwannee Bulldogs have to be kicking themselves after Friday night’s performance. Mistake after mistake on special teams loomed large as the Bulldogs dropped their home opener, allowing Chiefland to escape Langford Stadium with a 14-13 win.

MAYO — Lafayette is back on the winning track. Pulling away from visiting Hamilton County late, the Hornets seized a 34-20 win at Dale Walker Field on Friday to improve to 2-1. “They kept fighting,” Lafayette coach Marcus Edwards said of his Hornets.
