Down big, Columbia came out of halftime with a renewed defensive intensity. There was effort everywhere — rebounding, steals, diving for loose balls. It led to easy buckets, and the Tigers slowly trimmed the lead.

Columbia believes it’s found a good luck charm. It’s a joke from head coach Chip Garner. Since the Tigers started the season 0-2, Garner has made a point to tell his players a joke on game day. Sometimes it’s right before kickoff. Other times it’s at halftime.
