FALL ALL-AREA: Columbia's Ian Disosway named LCR's Boys Swimmer of the Year

A record that’s stood for 11 years at Columbia fell this season. Ian Disosway swam a 1:04.47 in the 100 breaststroke in September to break David Morse’s program mark of 1:04.74. It was only a sign of things to come for the sophomore swimmer. Disosway would eventually shatter his own record.

NFL: Jaguars DL Smoot out for season with torn Achilles tendon

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot, who is tied for the team lead with five sacks, is out for the remainder of the season after tearing the Achilles tendon in his right leg Thursday night at the New York Jets.

BOYS BASKETBALL: CHS finishes runner-up at Battle on the Island, faces another tourney test in Naples

A promising start ended with a rough finish for Columbia at Fleming Island’s Battle on the Island tournament. The Tigers fell to Orlando Christian Prep 61-35 in the championship game on Thursday after beating Auburndale (57-52) and Fleming Island (58-44) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Fort White gets confidence boost before break with huge win over Bell

FORT WHITE — With winter break on the horizon, Fort White needed a confidence boost before a long layoff. The Indians got it very quickly Thursday night. Fort White jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and was never threatened by Bell, cruising to a 64-23 win at home.
