GIRLS SOCCER — Lafayette 8, Hamilton County 0: Kalia Plunkett had a hat trick and Carra Clark scored two more goals to lead the Hornets (11-2) to a mercy-rule win over the Trojans (1-7) on the road Tuesday night. Lyda Plunkett, Ella McAdams and Mia Negrete also scored a goal apiece.

GIRLS SOCCER: Bobcats’ two goals in first six minutes too much for Tigers

Just 10 seconds into the new year, Columbia found itself in a hole. Five minutes later, that hole seemed more like a tiger pit. That’ll happen when playing a regional powerhouse. The Tigers (6-4) fell to visiting Buchholz Tuesday night as the Bobcats (4-8) scored early and often in their 4-1 win.

DURHAM, N.C.— Ryan Young’s best performance in a Duke uniform looked almost perfect. Young came off the bench for a season-high 20 points, going 7 for 7 from the field, and the No. 17 Blue Devils beat Florida State 86-67 on Saturday.

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans haven’t had much success against anyone over the last three seasons. But no matter how bad things have been, the one thing they’ve been able to count on is beating the Jacksonville Jaguars.
