BRANFORD — Kadence Compton had the type of game players dream of. For starters, the righthander finished with 13 strikeouts for a dominating 10-4 victory over Union County in Tuesday’s District 6-1A semifinal.

Garrett Taylor went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs, while Karlos Murphy and Hyatt Richardson each had two RBIs to lead top-seeded Lafayette (18-4) to a 10-0 run-rule win over No. 4 seed Hilliard (13-9) in five innings in the District 6-1A baseball semifinals at Branford High on Tuesday.

LIVE OAK – There was no place Kyler Hall would have rather been Monday afternoon. Little more than five months after the Suwannee’s season ended in a regional final, the Bulldogs were back on the practice field, turning their attention to the 2023 season.

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars closed the NFL draft the same way they opened it: by getting quarterback Trevor Lawrence some potential help. Jacksonville ended the three-day event Saturday by selecting Houston fullback Derek Parish in the seventh round, with the 240th overall pick.

Brian Allen had two phone calls to make when he was hired for his second go-around at Columbia. Both were to quarterbacks. One to Evan Umstead and another to Zack Paulk. Neither quarterback was a part of the program anymore when Allen was hired as head coach in February.
