BASEBALL — Columbia 7, St. John’s Country Day 7: Camdon Frier and Ayden Phillips both homered for the Tigers, who tied with the Spartans in their preseason opener on Monday at St. John’s Country Day. Matt Dumas, Branson Mann, Carston Palmer and Frier also hit doubles for CHS.

Columbia running back/receiver Jaylen Cooper and receiver Keeven Young signed letters of intent on Monday to play collegiately. Cooper is headed to Warner, an NAIA school in Lake Wales, FL, while Young will play at Carthage, a Division III school in Kenosha, WI.

BOYS BASKETBALL: CHS to host Pine Forest in playoff opener, FWHS left out

A district title propelled Columbia up the Region 1-5A rankings, just not as high as hoped. The FHSAA revealed the playoff brackets on Sunday and the Tigers (18-9) were awarded the No. 3 seed, earning them a home matchup with No. 6 seed Pine Forest (15-11) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
