MAYO — The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office — and Lafayette County in general — took a hit 11 months ago. That loss — when LCSO Lt. Lonny Hempstead died from complications with contracting covid-19 on Aug. 10, 2021 — was remembered Saturday when the End of Watch Ride to Remember rolled into town.

DOH warns of potential Withlacoochee contamination

JASPER — There was one fewer way to enjoy the long holiday weekend in Hamilton County. On Saturday, the Hamilton County Health Department issued a precautionary health update, warning of a potential contamination of the Withlacoochee River following a sewage overflow reported in Valdosta, Ga.

Pedestrian hit, killed in Live Oak

LIVE OAK — A Live Oak man walking along U.S. Highway 90 was killed in the overnight hours Sunday when he was hit by a car. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Lee man was driving east on U.S. 90 around 12:30 a.m.
