Sasse sole finalist for top UF job

TALLAHASSEE — A committee leading the search for a new University of Florida president announced Thursday that it put forward Republican U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska as the lone finalist to lead the state’s flagship university.

Wings Over Suwannee set for takeoff

LIVE OAK — Local thrill-seekers, gear heads and inquisitive minds can all have their curiosities satisfied at the Suwannee County Airport this weekend. The Wings Over Suwannee event, hosted by Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 797, is set to take flight both today and Saturday.

WASHINGTON — Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes told a member of the extremist group before the 2020 election that he had a contact in the Secret Service, a witness testified Thursday in Rhodes’ Capitol riot trial.

Pioneer Day: Mayo’s ‘staple’ event returns

MAYO — Lafayette County’s community-wide reunion is set to commence. Pioneer Day returns to Veteran’s Memorial Park, 123 SW County Road 300 in Mayo, for its 42nd rendition from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Dog fight triggers gunfire, arrest

JASPER — What began with a dog fight ended with a Jasper man arrested after firing shots at a victim’s feet. According to a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office report, a victim went to 24-year-old Cody Marcano’s residence Friday around 8 p.m. after Marcano’s dog attacked the victim’s mother’s dog.
