As the fire service changes, the Lake City Fire Department looks to evolve as well. It may have taken that next evolutionary step in the local firefighting/emergency services industry with its recent addition of a quick response truck.

County, city offices closing for holiday

Some local government offices will be closed Thursday afternoon and Friday as government employees get time off for the “Good Friday” holiday. The Lake City hall customer service building, on Hillsboro Street, will be closing at 1:30 p.m. on today (Thursday).

Fundraiser for Special Olympics back after two-year hiatus

The flame might have been missing from the torch used in Tuesday’s run, but it was evident in the sea of people running throughout Lake City.

Peacock pitches ‘Disney World’ of healthcare

A hospital may be coming back to the LakeShore Medical Center campus after all. During a presentation at Monday’s Lake Shore Hospital Authority meeting, Mike Peacock with Hope Bridges LLC pitched the trustees a plan that would include a full-service hospital near downtown Lake City once again.

LCPD revving up enforcement

Buckle up, Lake City residents. Motorists can expect more law enforcement on the roads in the coming weeks after the Lake City Police Department announced the return of the Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) on April 1, according to an LCPD release.

Ga. woman charged with passing fake prescriptions

Passing fake prescriptions got a Georgia woman time in jail in both Columbia and Suwannee counties instead of medicine. Jayla Jackson-Lawson was arrested Tuesday for two counts of passing counterfeited prescriptions and attempting to acquire a controlled substance by fraud in Columbia County.

Lake City ranch sets county record with $4.25M sale

The Double Barrel Ranch just blew away a Columbia County record. The ranch, located on SW Mandiba Drive near the Oaks Equestrian Center, was sold in January for $4.25 million, a new single family home sales record in the county.
