Horse thief nabbed for not covering tracks

FORT WHITE — It’s best to cover your tracks when committing a crime, literally. A Fort White woman was arrested Wednesday on a warrant after stealing a horse in January, thanks in part to tire tracks, foot prints and hoof prints that led directly to the suspect’s house.

I-10 resurfacing project to begin Sunday

A stretch of Interstate 10 will be getting a facelift. Construction on the resurfacing of nearly 25 miles of I-10 in eastern Columbia County and Baker County is set to begin Sunday with work set to be conducted during overnight hours.

Man charged with molesting child

A Lake City man was arrested Sunday evening after being accused on inappropriately touching a child. According to a Lake City Police Department report, a child told officers he was on his skateboard when it got stuck on NW Archer Street on the west side of town.

1 critically injured in daytime shooting

One person was critically injured Monday morning when their residence north of Lake City was struck by gunfire. According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a 26-year-old was transported to an area hospital in critical condition after being shot around 10 a.m.

Made in the shade: Kiwanis Club adds structure to keep park cool.

While temperatures are heating up with summer approaching, the playground equipment at Kiwanis Park is fixing to stay cool. The Kiwanis Club of Lake City has erected a shade structure over the playground equipment, a key ingredient of about $20,000 worth of improvements made at the park.
