BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: CHS boys fall to North Marion, CHS girls blow out Leon

Forward Zavian Douglas scored 19 points and guard Marlin Haywood added seven, but Columbia’s boys basketball team saw its 6-game win streak snapped in a 38-35 loss to North Marion in the Jim Haley Classic at Vanguard High School on Saturday.

PREP ROUNDUP: Columbia holds on to beat Madison County for 6th straight win

Zavian Douglas scored 20 points as Columbia held off Class Rural No. 4 Madison County for a 44-37 road win Friday night. Marlin Haywood added eight points and Zamarion Jones had five for the Tigers, who won their sixth straight to improve to 11-6.

BOYS SOCCER: Columbia starts fast, then holds off late surge from Gainesville

Columbia head coach Ed Turner is already in playoff mode. His team got a brief taste of that kind of intensity at the CYSA fields Friday night. The Tigers jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first half after falling behind by one, then held on during a late Gainesville rally for the 3-2 win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Columbia bounces back by blowing out Suwannee

BRANFORD — Andi Sabourin didn’t think much of it at the time. But the Buccaneers’ senior setter was having the match of her career. Going up against defending champion Baker in the state semifinals, Sabourin left no room to doubt her status as perhaps the best setter in team history.

PREP ROUNDUP: CHS boys tie Ridgeview, girls shut out Suwannee

BOYS SOCCER — Columbia 2, Ridgeview 2: Cody Bass and Nathan Matsubara each scored a goal but the Tigers (7-2-3) only came away with a draw against the Panthers (5-6-1) on Senior Night on Wednesday, snapping their 5-match win streak.

FALL ALL-AREA: Columbia's Casey Fair named LCR's Girls Swimmer of the Year

Casey Fair didn’t swim the 100 backstroke at a single meet during the regular season. But that gave the Columbia senior a chance to catch her opponents by surprise at the District 2-3A meet, especially since she swam the event regularly for her club team, the Columbia Swim Team Tiger Sharks.
