PREP FOOTBALL: Lafayette two-way star Murphy headed to Benedict College

MAYO — The Lake City Reporter’s football Co-Player of the Year is heading north to continue his career at the collegiate level. Lafayette receiver Jordan Murphy signed his letter of intent Friday to play at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.

FORT WHITE — Kadence Compton said the at-bat lasted forever. Like it was never going to be over. Moments stretched into minutes as Compton fought off foul ball after foul ball. But on the other side of a 1-2 pitch from Ryleigh Davis, it was Compton’s moment to share with her team.

PREP WEIGHTLIFTING: Suwannee program wins 100th straight meet

LIVE OAK — The Suwannee weightlifting program cleared another bar Monday. In a dominant performance against Madison County, the Bulldogs claimed their 100th straight regular season win between both the boys and girls teams.

PREP BASEBALL: Fort White run-rules Ocala Christian in four innings

FORT WHITE — If one is good, two is better. Fort White piled on back-to-back six-run innings against Ocala Christian to fuel its second consecutive run-rule victory in Monday’s 16-1 win in four innings to maintain its perfect season.

Columbia’s boys track and field team placed fourth out of 14 teams at the SFHS Raiders Invitational on Saturday, tallying 83.5 points behind Gainesville (123), Buchholz (116) and Eastside (94). The CHS girls finished sixth with 56.5 points behind Gainesville (147), Eastside (124), Forest (80.
