COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Commissioners tell VP no football before campuses open

The commissioners of the nation’s major college football conferences held a 30-minute conference call Wednesday with Vice President Mike Pence and stressed that college sports cannot return from the coronavirus shutdown until campuses have reopened.

WINTER ALL-AREA: Garner named LCR's Girls Soccer Player of the Year

Eleven players scored a goal for Columbia this season but no one netted more than Kirsten Garner. No one else in school history has either. Garner set a school record this year with 27 goals, leading the Lady Tigers to their best season of the decade.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As sponsor after sponsor dropped Kyle Larson after he used a racial slur during a live-streamed virtual race, his NASCAR team owner was backed into a corner.

WINTER ALL-AREA: Chasteen repeats as LCR's Girls Weightlifter of the Year

Reece Chasteen felt pretty good halfway through the Class 2A state meet. The junior had just benched 200 pounds and she sat in fifth place in the 199-pound weight class. Her eyes were on a top-six finish to land on the medal stand.

AUTO RACING: NASCAR’s Larson suspended for racial slur in virtual race

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kyle Larson was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR and without pay by Chip Ganassi Racing on Monday for using a racial slur on a live stream during a virtual race. The star driver said there was “no excuse” for his comment.

COMMENTARY: More colleges should be offering CHS backcourt duo of Gaines & Jones

Kenney Gaines and Darrien Jones should have more college offers. It’s as simple as that. Wake up coaches, these kids can ball. Stop overlooking them.

PREP FOOTBALL: Brown, Williams each pick up two more college offers

Columbia defensive back Shyheim Brown and receiver Jaden Williams both received more college offers on Thursday. The 2021 prospects each picked up an offer from Georgia Southern, while Brown also got the call from Buffalo and Williams was offered by Missouri State.
